Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin thinks the network is on the verge of scaling 100 times more, and Optimism will launch its layer two solution in the coming weeks.
Speaking in Tim Ferriss’ post, Buterin said that ETH 2.0 developers are focusing on working on chain convergence with Ethereum. Buterin believes that layer two solutions can support the network until sharding is developed.
Ethereum co-founder said, “New solutions are coming soon. We believe the sharding will be ready already, ”he added, until it needs more scaling.
Second layer solutions will process and store transaction data in a side chain designed for it, then aggregate it and transfer it to the Ethereum mainnet. These solutions aim to mitigate the scaling problems of Ethereum, where tight competition for bandwidth results in soaring transaction fees.
Although Buterin says ETH 2.0 will use sharding for scaling once fully launched, he thinks these solutions will suffice in the medium term. New solutions are expected to increase process efficiency up to 100 times.
The Ethereum co-founder thinks Optimism will launch the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) in a month or two. Buterin emphasized that Arbitrum has also made great progress in EVM compatible solutions.
