Investing.com – Democratic Party candidate Raphael Warnock will win the second-round election for one of the Georgia seats in the US Senate, according to Wednesday’s report by CBS News and NBC.
The other race between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican David Perdue also seems to be heading towards Democrat victory, according to channels and election prediction services. According to the Decision Desk, Ossof holds the lead with close to 13,000 votes, with 99% of the votes counted and most of the remaining from the counties that voted for Democrats in the November elections.
On the news, the US 10-year Treasury bond yield was 1% for the first time since March. The market was priced by a more expansive fiscal policy under a US government administration that was entirely under their control, with both seats won by the Democrats.
US stocks fell mostly on the results. There is concern that the full victory of the Democrats will encourage people to close profits on stocks before a possible increase in capital gains tax. The Nasdaq was down 1.7%, down 0.5% and remained calm.
